James E. Hughes, Staff Litigation Counsel

Jim joined GuideOne in 2020 as litigation counsel, having come from private practice as an associate and partner in a law firm specializing in civil litigation, and having worked as staff counsel for a major insurance company. He represents GuideOne and its insureds in Texas, and has extensive trial experience in state and federal courts, with experience in general liability, premise liability, commercial litigation, and employment law. He is also experienced in corporate, probate, and public utility matters. He is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

Jim graduated from Stephan F. Austin State University in 1978 with a B.F.A. in Music and received his J.D. from Baylor University in 1988. He is licensed to practice in all Texas State Courts and is admitted to practice before the Federal District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas, as well as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

In his time away from practice, Jim enjoys music, outdoor activities, and spending time with his family.
