Tom Joined GuideOne Insurance in 2020 and serves as Coverage Counsel.

Prior to GuideOne, Tom practiced for a defense firm in Des Moines, Iowa, for nearly fourteen years, primarily in the areas of insurance coverage and insurance defense litigation. Tom regularly advised clients on insurance matters and litigated insurance coverage disputes in declaratory judgment proceedings. Tom also has extensive appellate experience and has handled dozens of appeals on a myriad of issues. Tom has argued before the Iowa Supreme Court, Iowa Court of Appeals, and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit on multiple occasions.

Tom received his undergraduate degree from Iowa State University in 2001, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors. Tom received his law degree from the University of Oregon in 2004. Following law school, Tom spent two years working as a judicial law clerk for Chief Judge Rosemary Sackett of the Iowa Court of Appeals.

Tom is a founding board member of the Iowa Wildlife Center, a nonprofit wildlife rehabilitation organization based in central Iowa, and continues to volunteer with the organization.
